Fibromyalgia and Vitamin D3
Fibromyalgia is far too common today. According to the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Vitamin D deficiency is one possible contributor of persistent and vague musculoskeletal pain. Consider this study performed at the University of Minnesota. Out of 150 children and adults suffering from vague musculoskeletal pain 93% of them had measurable vitamin D deficiency. In this same study they found ALL the African American, Hispanic and Native Americans were vitamin D deficient. But the most startling deficiencies were in women of childbearing age. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to increased risk of osteoporosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and auto-immune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
Another interesting study published in the Clinical Rheumatology issue of July 2006. Researchers concluded that anxiety and depression associated with fibromyalgia may also be linked to low vitamin D levels.
